Theoretical Approach

I believe that clients are competent and capable of creating change in their lives. I practice from the viewpoint that clients can enhance their awareness of what is keeping them feeling static throughout the process of therapy. This requires the development of a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship.

My main approach is supporting clients in identifying the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, also known as a cognitive-behavioural approach. As I work with clients, I support them in discovering how this understanding may aid them in creating change. For many clients, this can be effective. For others, addressing thoughts in a new way can be helpful. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is an additional approach I use that encourages clients to notice and lean into thoughts. ACT can be a helpful approach for increasing awareness and acceptance of how thoughts impact overall functioning.
