Biographical Sketch

I have spent the majority of my years calling rural Alberta home.  The prairie landscapes, quiet streets, and sense of community have influenced my approach to life.  I have developed an appreciation for the power of connection present in rural communities.  Defining moments during my youth taught me the importance of practicing compassion, tolerance, and understanding in my daily interactions with others.  This led to choosing a career path in the field of mental health.

I decided to pursue an undergraduate degree in psychology at MacEwan University.  After completing my degree, I worked mainly in mental health prevention programming in a school setting.  My early interest and desire to support children and youth widened throughout my personal and professional experiences.  I believe that in order to support youth, we must also support the adults in their lives – in schools, in families, and in communities.  With the desire to better support children, youth, and families, I decided to start the Master of Counselling program at the University of Lethbridge.  My learning has enhanced my passion for providing a safe place for individuals to find support in my community.

I believe that it is important for counsellors to be intentional in their own self-care routines to enable them to better support clients.  To take care of my mental wellness, I enjoy running, curling, connecting with family and friends, and spending time in nature.
